History

Malt Beverages

Dating back to ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia and Egypt, malt beverages have been enjoyed for thousands of years and beloved for their nutritional benefits. Over time and even today, the brewing process has evolved to incorporate a variety of ingredients and techniques forging a diverse range of malt-based products. Whether it's a classic malted milkshake on a hot summer’s day or a refreshing drink with friends at the pub, these beverages offer a unique flavor profile that make them truly unique and beloved by consumers. We can't wait to work with you to develop a malt beverage that is tailor-made to you and your consumers' unique needs and tastes!

Key Considerations

  1. Under the Federal Alcohol Administration Act, to be considered a malt beverage, a product must be made from a base that is 25% malt and must contain at least 7.5 pounds of hops per 100 barrels of finished product.
  2. Formula approval by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau is required if the brewer of a malt beverage uses flavors with alcohol, compounded flavors, colors, artificial sweetners, other agricultural ingredients, or if the beverage is frozen.
  3. If a beer or malt beverage contains more than 6% ABV, no more than 1.5% of the finished product may consist of alcohol derived from flavorings and other non-beverage ingredients, in order to remain in the malt beverage category.
