Thanksgiving Drinks to Sip On All Day

Yes, Thanksgiving is all about the food. But while the turkey is roasting in the oven and the stove top is a mess of flavorful activity, most families use beverages to keep their bellies quiet before the call of the dinner bell. From morning mimosas to delectable pumpkin pie martinis, we’ve got the perfect drinks to pair with your feast day excitement. Let’s dig in.

Thanksgiving Breakfast Drinks

If you’re the chef of your family (or you’ve been recruited for support), then you’re probably out of bed by this time already. Sure, you could grab a hot cup of coffee to start your day, but there’s other options that might better suit your palate as you wait for the oven to pre-heat.

If it’s cool, a hot chocolate is an easy classic that you and the kids can warm up to while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV. But if you’re gearing up for something a little harder (it’s five o’clock somewhere, right?) then try a delightful morning mimosa. We recommend this recipe for a sweet, simple, and aptly named Sunrise Mimosa.

Just champagne, orange juice, and grenadine, this tasty morning treat provides a quick and refreshing fix that’s won’t be so strong as to knock you out before you’ve tasted the turkey. Even the kids can partake in a mocktail version of this delight — just replace the champagne with extra OJ and dress it up with some orange slices or maraschino cherries.

Thanksgiving “Lunch” Drinks

Okay, you may be thinking, “Lunch? what lunch? We don’t eat until the turkey’s out of the oven on Thanksgiving!” Fair enough. But who isn’t by this time guilty of perusing the kitchen for a sample of the evening’s fare? We could all use a glass of something to wash down the spoils of our many tastings.

Luckily there’s a few options. With only three ingredients, this sparkling cranberry punch is super easy to throw together between dishes and the perfect bubbly refresher for a pre-dinner drink. You can dress it up by adding some citrus or seasonal fruits (but as long as you don’t burn the stuffing, no one will fault you for choosing not to put in the extra effort).

With a little more planning, you can pre-prepare the perfect fall sangria or, to be right on the nose, a non-alcoholic Thanksgiving punch. Your sangria will of course involve a bottle of dry red wine (and let’s face it, by this point, you’ll probably need a drink anyway). Combine your wine with some sparkling cider, a sliced apple, pear, and orange, as well as cinnamon and sugar. If you’re feeling festive, you can add some cinnamon sticks and a rosemary spring for garnish.

To make your Thanksgiving punch, you’ll need to combine apple cider with sparkling blood orange and grape juices. This recipe also includes a spiced syrup, frozen cranberries, apples, oranges, and finally, cinnamon sticks for garnish. The result is a delightfully flavorful fall harvest in a glass!

Not only are these options tasty, but the best part about planning a punch or sangria in advance is that it will make your kitchen look a little more put together amidst the day’s cooking chaos.

Thanksgiving Dinner & Dessert Drinks

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for — time to feast! At this point, you’ll need a drink worthy to toast to your good cooking. Since you’ve worked hard all day, we recommend a simple, refreshing cocktail, like an aperol or ginger spritz. Either are sure to brighten your palate and cut through the heaviness of dinner.

If you’re skipping on dessert (who could blame you after all that food!) then you should try this boozy, 3-ingredient adult root beer float or, if you don’t mind a little extra prep, a pumpkin pie martini. They’ll be sure to satisfy your sweet tooth for fall’s best flavors without making you feel like you’ve gone completely overboard.

One last tip before we go: don’t forget to loosen that waistband and remember who and what you’re thankful for. Happy feasting!
